The Sindh Mines & Mineral Development Department was established on 22nd August 2001 in pursuance of the National Mineral Policy, 1995, with the objective of promoting the sustainable exploration, development, regulation, and management of the province’s mineral resources. The Department is committed to creating a transparent, investor-friendly environment that encourages both domestic and foreign investment in the mineral sector while ensuring responsible and environmentally sustainable mining practices.

Sindh is richly endowed with a wide variety of industrial and construction minerals that play a vital role in the province’s economic development. Currently, 24 different minerals are being extracted across various districts of Sindh, including Granite, Marble, Limestone, China Clay, Gypsum, Bentonite, Dolomite, Silica Sand, Quartzite Sandstone, Fuller's Earth, Gravel, Lake Salt, Laterite, Red Ochre, Chalk, Celestite, Trona, Sand & Gravel, Reti Bajri, and several other valuable mineral resources.

Among these, Granite from Nagarparkar is one of the province’s most significant mineral assets, recognized for its excellent quality, durability, and commercial value. The Department continues to facilitate geological investigations, resource assessment, and investment opportunities to promote the sustainable utilization of these valuable mineral resources.

The Department also oversees mineral concession management, geological investigations, mineral exploration, licensing, and regulatory compliance to ensure that mineral resources are developed efficiently and transparently. Through modern policies, digital initiatives, and effective governance, the Department aims to maximize the economic potential of Sindh’s mineral wealth while supporting industrial growth, employment generation, and long-term sustainable development for the province.
